Montclair Discusses Plastic Bag Ban

On Tuesday, July 23rd, the Montclair Mayor and Council held discussions with members of the community regarding the ban of plastic bags.  Deputy Mayor, Sean Spiller, fully supports a plastic bag ban and feels that to take the lead on an environmental issue like this requires that people change a learned behavior.

“When you change behavior, it is not something that is done easily.”

The Deputy Mayor also feels that eliciting a specific response to continuing that behavior is what is needed to change it.

“Charging fees, making sure that we have bags that are reusable, making sure we do things that stop the continual pollution of our environment that are absolutely within our control…we have to take the lead on issues like this, and we always have in the past.”
