Montclair Named One of the 30 Safest College Towns in U.S.

In a study run by SafeWise, a company that provides security comparisons and community safety reports, Montclair was named one of the thirty safest college towns in the country, coming in at 26th.

SafeWise compiled their report by analyzing the FBI’s crime statistics from 2015.  They calculated the total number of crimes committed in American cities that had at least one accredited academic institution for higher learning.  Analysts also weighed those numbers with other factors, such as population numbers and other factors that were deemed important.

SafeWise cited Montclair’s participation in the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority’s Street Smart NJ campaign.  Street Smart NJ’s goal is to educate drivers and pedestrians in order to improve enforcement of transportation laws and rules.

On Montclair’s inclusion on this list, Third Ward Councilman, Sean Spiller, had this to say, “Once again, we see another study telling us what we already know… Montclair is a great place to live, play, and study!”  If you would like to learn more about the Street Smart NJ program, you can visit their website or follow them on Facebook and Twitter.  If you would like to read the SafeWise report, feel free to read their blog post.
