Montclair Social Services

As winter begins to show its harsher self, there are those in the Montclair community that need help making it through.  Thankfully, Montclair has a support system to help those who need it. Here are just a few of the places throughout Montclair that offer a helping hand.

The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel

Located at 13 Trinity Place, the Citadel offers social services assistance Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 4:00pm.

The Citadel also offers meals throughout the week.  The schedule is as follows:

Breakfast is served Monday through Friday from 9:30 – 10:30am.  A continental breakfast is served four days a week.  Every Wednesday, a full breakfast is served.

Lunch is served Monday through Wednesday at 12:00pm.  The meals are wonderfully prepared, delicious and freshly cooked hot meals.

All meals are open to everyone in the community, not just Salvation Army clients.  Sign in is requested for each meal so a count can be kept of how many people are served daily.  Reports are provided to the county monthly.

Other services:

Shower Days

Wednesdays are shower days, where people can come in to take a shower.  Toiletries, towels, socks, underwear, and clothing are provided from available donations.  Towels are requested to be returned so they can be washed.

Non-Perishable Food Bags

People are able to come in and request non-perishable food bags.  Photo ID and signature are required.

With the help of a large donation from ADP, they hope to give as much as they can to everyone who comes in.

Cornerstone House

Cornerstone House is the Salvation Army’s shelter.  It has beds for males, females, and families.  Availability can vary as clients can stay for a maximum of 30 days.

All who wish to stay at cornerstone house must complete an intake form, live in Essex County, and fulfill all requirements set by Essex County (this includes passing a drug test on site).

Cornerstone is an emergency overnight shelter.  It opens at 6:00pm.  Clients must leave by 8:25am the following morning.

For more information about Cornerstone House, there are brochures available at the Salvation Army Montclair Citadel.
